This is a phenomenon, where some word gets incorrectly associated with wrong meaning by the greater part of the invoved population, which usually considers this an unessential detail.

Examples:

Using brand name as a synonim for particular class of technology.

1. "Windows" meaning operating system.
2. "Word" meaning word processor.
3. "MySQL" meaning dynamic web site / CMS.

Calling these by other names might help, but seems rather difficult.

This bug is often exploited by propaganda forces.
