Add server hot key combination to break grab.

PING protocol extension. Used to find dead or busy apps/windows, probably by window manager. If application doesn't respond to ping in time, it is flagged as stalled and appropriate attribute set. Ping replies could be implemented int GUI toolkit, so they are transparent to applications. Set special attribute on windows, which support this.

Cursor changes to busy shape over a stalled window. Block input to stalled window. Alternatively, indicate the stalled window with different appearance of window frame.
