He lives in Sarajevo from his fourth year of age. In March 1995, there was a day of cease-fire and he went for a walk. Sniper shot him and he is paraplegic from that moment on. The moment was recorded by a video camera. When he was nineteen he established an organization "Organization for self-assurance", which is helping victims of war. He personally met Bill and Hillary Clinton and Princes Diana. He was sixteen when the war broke out. From the interview: "For me life was just starting, when the war broke out. You know girls, music, my own band… The last ten years we literally couldn’t breathe. The old story didn’t finish yet, so the new beginning could not start. I just buried myself into the work. I could leave at any time, but I’m surrounded with really good people and I will not leave. I perceive the time as before the event and after… People are asking me what I would do if I would meet the person who shot me. I don’t know. Maybe the whole horror that I went through would come out in a form of hate. Probably nothing would happen. I don’t hate this person. I don’t even think about him. When I saw the video footage of the event for the very first time I noticed with horror that that day I was wearing white socks. Mostly I’m dreaming that I’m flying. My life is stretched between the very horrible moments and a hope that it will get better. Because of that my life is not running smoothly, it is twitching. There is no chance that I could walk again, although I have a feeling that it’s not missing a lot for me to walk again. In ten years I want to be perfectly calm." |
