  
bb-slo-053.jpg Cerknica lake is the most typical Dinaric region of Slovenia, a field with the surface area up to 40 sq. kilometres, above a collapsed karst cavern full of sinkholes, siphons and undergroung tunnels that stay dry for much of the year and then flood when the waters from the mountains rush straight to the plain. Between July and September the "lake" hosts catle and farmers cultuvate the land, in sprping and autumn it is a place to fish in the lake, while in winter the lake freezes and is a popular vast skating area. |
