Europe - Alliances Old and New

What are the cultural implications of the political and social developments of the past decade? Are old cultural links being obliterated by new political exigencies and what is the position and status of the new countries to enter the EU next year, and, equally importantly, of those being left behind? What do Europeans have in common and what is the meaning of concepts such as internationalism and cosmopolitism today?

Miguel Vale de Almeida ( Portugal ), Aleš Debeljak and Tomaž Šalamun ( Slovenia ), Mererid Hopwood ( Wales ), Ryszard Kapuscinski ( Poland ), Juris Kronbergs (Sweden/Latvia)
