Writers Residence in Slovenia

Center for Slovenian Literature, Public Agency for Cultural Activities and Cultural Society Badger and partners are wanting a writer for

3-weeks long residency in Kočevje
and guest appearance at Festival of young writers Urška 2009.

Writers, poets and dramatists from countries other than Slovenia are welcome. Please send your interest to litcenter@mail.ljudmila.org

before June 30th, 2009. Enclose a short CV, bibliography and a sample of your work. One person will be selected. The decision will be declared on July 31st, 2009, at latest.

The residency will take place from October 14th to November 4th, 2009. Cost free lodging and food are provided for supporting a writer, who cares for creating in a peaceful environment of a hidden European town. For October 16th and 17th selected author will stay in Slovenj Gradec as special guest at Festival of young writers Urška 2009. Travelling costs to and from Slovenia are not subject of this call.

There will be three public presentation of authors work, one in Kočevje, another in Ljubljana, capital of Slovenia, and another one during the festival in Slovenj Gradec. For these occasions some sample translations in Slovenian language of author’s work will be provided by organisers.

Writer in residence will be furthermore required to inscribe in the book, for which text was created during the residency, the following inscription: “This book was (partially) written in Kočevje, Slovenia, with support of Center for Slovenian Literature, Public Agency for Cultural Activities and Cultural Society Badger and partners.” A copy of the book is requested for donation to the Library in Kočevje.
