Peter Preston












Peter Preston came to The Guardian in 1963. Since then he has had a number of different tasks: first he covered politics, and later education; he was a war correspondent from the Indian-Pakistani war, from Bangladesh and from Cyprus; he had several editorial functions; in 1975 he became an editor, and in 1995 the chief editor of The Guardian and The Observer. He is currently president of the Guardian Newspapers company and director of the Guardian Media Group. He has been active in the International Press Institute, and one of the initiators and founders of the Press Complaints Commission, the British organisation for self-regulation in the press.
