EclècticaDV in collaboration with d-i-n-a, samizdat.net, penelopes &
amisnet presents:
*DATAFIGHTERS*
Digital gap, copyleft culture, mediahacktivism & free software
A DVD-project on digital culture, knowledge commons and information
autonomy practices, presenting an alternative vision of the "information
society" through videocontributions uploaded by civil society
organizations & info-activists from around the globe.
*Call for Videocontributions*
An editorial team of international communication activists, researchers
and media makers will collect and select existing documentaries and
footage and compilate Datafighters as a video narration of about 150
min, intercut with contextual introduction and translated into english,
spanish, french, portuguese and italian.
We are looking for videomaterial that features four groups of
"Datafighters" at the centre of digital culture:
* technology denied groups (digital divide, ICT gendergap,
biotechnology, life patents, ...)
* grassroots communities and independent groups that create their
own media & software (mediahacktivism, free software, peer-to-peer
networks, creative commons, community wireless infrastructures,
dedicated servers, community and pirate radio & television, mediawatch...)
* casualized workers of the 'information factory' (callcenters,
teleworkers, sweatshops of the electronics industry, flexworkers of the
communication & knowledge industry)
* citizens threatened by informationwar techniques ('smart' bombs,
border control & biometrics, surveillance in public spaces, at
demonstrations, at work and on the net)
Your material can be a short clip of about 5-10min but also a longer
feature movie. In that case, and in full collaboration with you, we will
select an extract of your movie (an introduction, a chapter, any extract
that makes a logical clip on its own). We also accept unedited footage
(camerashots) we might use for the contextual introduction on the DVD.
* first deadline: 15th of August,2005 (movies sent for this
deadline will have a higher chance to be selected)
* second deadline: 1st of september, 2005
* last deadline: 15th of september, 2005
Datafighters wants to become an example of a DVD-magazine that offers
videomakers both a distributionchannel and a means of income for
grassroots videomaking. For the moment we haven't received any funding
yet and are trying to finance our project through a P2P Fundraising
system (check P2PFundraisingForm on our website). Check the
VideocontributionCall on our website for details on the tariffs we
budgeted if your videocontribution is selected!
