The P.A.R.A.S.I.T.E. Museum of Contemporary Art and Tadej Pogačar announce the unveiling of the 'Monument to an Unknown Prostitute' in the Tivoli Park in Ljubljana. This will be the first memorial of its kind ever known to be erected. The inauguration of the monument will be performed in close co-operation with the Comitato dei Diritti Civilli delle Prostitute institution from Pordenone, Italy. The inauguration of the monument forms part of the wider CODE:RED project exploring certain aspects of prostitution and sex work as a specific mode of parallel economy.

Temporary Monument
'Monument to an Unknown Prostitute' is an example of a temporary public monument in urban setting. It represents an alternative view of monumentality (historical importance, immortality). The logic of this temporary monument is best illustrated by Guy Debord's thought that
the 'weak' should exploit the 'strong' to create his/her own autonomous sphere of action.
The nature of the monument is fragmentary and heterogenuous. The choice of materials and the manner of construction follow the ethic and aesthetic of dailines and temporariness. The selected materials are predominantly ordinary and cast-off matters.

THE OPENING CEREMONY
The construction of the monument will be performed publicly between 27 and 31 January 2002.
The unveiling of the monument will be held on 1 February 2002 at 6 p.m.
in front of the International Centre of Graphic Arts in the Tivoli Park.

Panel Discussion
A panel discussion on Globalism and New Exclusions will be held after the opening, with participation of Daniela Manu and Pia Covre, activists of the Comitato per i Diritti Civili delle Prostitute.
