"The capital has become a parasite and
has lost its ability to represent common interests. Positive modernisation
or positive capitalisation do not exist. There is a simple possibility
to create a new world. The latter is not revolutionary but a world
of absolute democracy. There must exist a new world if people want
it."
A Marxist, a university professor, a man, charged
with the leadership of the Italian revolutionary left-wing party
in the 70s, a former intellectual leader of Autonomia operaia (Worker's
Autonomy, author's note), proclaimed a terrorist in the Italian
"leaden years" (Anni di piombo), as well as a secret leader
of Red brigades (Brigate rosse), an armed group, which has kidnapped
and killed Aldo Moro, the president of the Italian Christian Democratic
party, a prisoner, a parliament representative of the radical party,
living under political asylum, who has voluntarily surrendered to
the authorities. Today Antonio or Toni Negri lives under house arrest
in Rome. Together with Michael Hardt he has written a world-famous
book success Empire which was by some proclaimed as a communist
manifesto of the present time, whereas by other as a guidebook of
antiglobalisation movements, which is by no means a handbook for
revolution.
