Magic in eastern Serbia is a
part of the Vlach tradition. The Vlachs are the descendants of Romanized
Illyrians and other ancient nomadic peoples in the Balkan Peninsula. The
ability to communicate with higher forces is a ten-thousand-year-old heritage
and, according to matriarchal patterns, is attributed only to Vlach women.
Ethnologists define the magic of the Timoska krajina region as penetrating
into the deep collective consciousness of the Vlach people.
