The cochlear implant is implanted in a child at very early age, perhaps at two years of age. This is very important for the child's normal development. The beginning it is the hardest, since sound is a completely abstract thing for a deaf child. In the polyclinic there is a kindergarten, where the teacher is working with parents, so they learn how to support the rehabilitation of recently operated children.
SUVAG is a rehabilitation centre for deaf childeren. Childeren who were born deaf, had an operation and an implant was build in their scull and inner ear. With a rehabilitation they learn how to hear and speak. Rehabilitation last between two and four years. Childeren are enrolled in normal school or kindergarten. |
