After the operation children can only hear the presence or absence of sound. This four year boy, who has been in rehabilitation for two years already and can hear pretty well, covers the dummy’s mouth. With this gesture he is trying to show the recently operated boy, that there is no sound, that the dummy is not alive. On the child’s ear we can see the outer part of the cochlear implant with a digital processor.
SUVAG is a rehabilitation centre for deaf childeren. Childeren who were born deaf, had an operation and an implant was build in their scull and inner ear. With a rehabilitation they learn how to hear and speak. Rehabilitation last between two and four years. Childeren are enrolled in normal school or kindergarten. |
