In Rajac they once believed in the power of the people who were walled up alive. The tales tell of the old people who, when they felt that the death was coming for them, urged their children to build houses, so that they could be walled up into the foundations while still alive. That way a man’s soul doesn’t depart for the afterworld, but watches over the house and the people living in it. The town is known for its wine cellars, strong wine and brandy, while the memory of the people walled up alive and the engraved silhouettes or people’s faces fade into oblivion. |
