It is unacceptable for Vlachs not to light a candle immediately after a person passes away. It is supposed to guide the person into the afterworld, and it should be lit, if only to prevent that person from turning into a vampire and harassing its relatives after death. The Vlachs believe that a person needs food and drink as well as new clothes for journeys in the world of the dead. So the relatives prepare everything to make the life in the afterworld as good as possible for the deceased. The Vlachs don't dwell too much on what is or isn’t appropriate to give to the deceased for his journey into the afterworld. They simply perform all the rituals and customs that would, by their knowledge, improve the life of the deceased.
